Kathryn N. Hedden is a graduate of Rutgers School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. For a year following law school, she clerked for a Superior Court Judge in New Jersey where she assisted in both criminal and civil cases. She worked as a municipal court public defender, set up a community mediation panel, and practiced law for five years in New Jersey specializing in real estate, land use and family law.
Upon relocating to Georgia in 1989 she joined the law firm of Bricks and Floyd where she specialized in the area of real estate and family law. In 2000, she opened her own law firm that provided services primarily in all areas of family law including divorce, child custody, child support, juvenile law and adoption. After a brief sabbatical from the law in 2008, Kathryn had reopened her law firm with an emphasis on collaborative law and mediation in both family and all areas of civil practice.
She is a certified civil and domestic mediator in the State of Georgia. Her affiliations are the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, the Ninth Circuit of Georgia and Cobb Superior Court ADR Program.
Kathryn’s first training in Collaborative Law was in the area of family law in 1993. In 2008, she received advanced training in civil collaborative law. Since then she has been working to grow the practice of collaborative law in Forsyth County by encouraging more professionals to obtain training in this area.
Besides being a member of the New Jersey and Georgia bars, Kathryn belongs to the Georgia Mediators Association, the Collaborative Law Institute of Atlanta, the American Bar Association, the International Association of Collaborative Professionals and the Association for Conflict Resolution.
Kathryn has two grown children, a dog and a cat. She has served on the board of numerous community organizations during her career. Currently she is involved with Family Haven, a domestic violence organization in Forsyth County and Indio Trail, a non-profit that seeks to educate others about the indigenous tribes that originally inhabited this area and still remain here in their homeland.
The philosophy of this law firm is to provide the type of legal services that help individuals, businesses and communities find lasting solutions to their problems.
